Our focus is on the innate beauty of natural materials, textures and tonalities Each material is selected for its intrinsic character, colour, surface and texture, as well as how it patines with poise over time. Adding an extra dimension of authenticity, originality and sophistication to any interior space. Please take notes of which finish your hardware products have, as the cleaning methods are unique to each one.

Initial care for finishes requires only periodic cleaning with a very mild non-abrasive soap and light buffing with a soft cloth. It is advised not to use any cleaning agents that contain harsh chemicals, alcohol or other solvents as well as using sponges that may scratch and damage the surface.

BRANDT Collective Hardware finishes

Due to its durable and hardwearing properties, we use Oak for our hardware collections to add an attractive natural aspect. The Oak wood handle must be cleaned with a soft damp cloth without cleaning detergents. Our Oak handlebars are untreated, which gives them a very natural look. However if you wish to treat your Oak handlebars with oil we suggest using a neutral furniture oil available for purchase in any hardware store. However, when the Oak handlebars are treated with oil, they often become darker in colour.

Wenge is a straight-grained dark brownish wood, which almost seems black when given an oil finish. The tangential surface consists of pencil-thin light lines interspersed with blackish brown lines creating a wave-like pattern within the wood. Our Wenge handlebars are treated with natural furniture oil, which gives the handlebars the dark colour and emphasises the grain structure. The Wenge handlebars must be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth in order not to damage the texture and surface of the handlebars. Over time the Wenge handlebars might become lighter in colour, if so, it is suggested to treat them with neutral furniture oil.

Our Black Horn comes from certified buffalo horn. The Black Horn is easy to maintain as a clean damp cloth can do the trick. However, over a long period of time the surface of the black horn handlebar can become dry. We therefore recommend applying olive oil with a soft non-abrasive cloth. As a natural material the horn might bend slightly over time especially if exposed to heat. Our handlebars are made in one piece and not glued together to insure the best quality.

Our brass and nickel hardware are not lacquered, which allows them to gain a natural patina over time. Please note that especially satin brass patinates quite quickly which should not be seen as a defect. It is part of an intentional look where natural materials are allowed to age with poise inspired by the authentic Wabi-Sabi philosophy. Humid environments such as bathrooms and kitchens can accelerate the ageing process of the hardware. As our brass and nickel hardware have different finishes, it is essential to use the right-cleaning agents. If you wish to polish the polished brass handles and polished nickel handles we suggest an acknowledged brass or metal polish, which can be purchased in most general hardware stores. Make sure to use a soft non-abrasive cloth when applying the polish to the handlebars and bearings. To clean satin nickel and satin brass use a damp non-abrasive cloth without any cleaning detergents.

Please note only regarding satin brass:
you can carefully use a soft scourer sponge to retrieve the brushed satin look. Be aware that nickel is a plating on brass and therefore only a surface layer, and burnished brass is a surface treatment, therefore the use of a scourer sponge is not recommended on these surfaces.
